How to Soothe Your Sore throat





Sore throat is very common especially in winters and it is usually the first sign of cold, stressed vocal cords or a more serious infection. At the same time , it is irritating and makes you have sleepless nights. Here are few tips to soothe your sore throat and have a comfortable winter, free of sore throat.

Saltwater gargles

Saltwater gargles several times a day reduce the inflammation and swelling in throat and loosen the mucus thus relieving the sore throat. Make sure to spit out the water after gargles and do not swallow it.

Keep Hydrated

Take plenty of fluids when you have sore throat. This keeps your mucous membranes moist and helps combat bacteria and allergens more efficiently. The choice is yours but many people prefer warm fluids to comfort their sore throat like chicken soup, tea, coffee.

Tea

Tea is another way to soothe your sore throat especially herbal tea is very soothing and gives an immediate effect. You can also take black tea if you prefer it. Tea boosts immunity and helps to combat infections.

Chicken Soup

Chicken Soup is a yummier way to soothe you sore throat. It has been an old remedy for cold and flu. It has salt which  reduces inflammation and also has the advantage of giving you the nutrition you need when you are sick and eating less.

NSAID’s

Non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs available over the counter help to reduce the pain and irritation due to sore throat. They also help to relieve associated symptoms with a sore throat such as fever.

Lozenges and sprays

Lozenges and sprays help relieve the sore throat immediately and temporarily. They stimulate saliva production which keeps mucous membranes hydrated. They don’t cure but give temporary soothing effect.

Honey

Honey has anti-inflammatory effects and is very effective for sore throat. Honey in warm water or mixed with black pepper powder gives soothing effect to throat. It also boosts immunity.
